Honors, Awards and Grants

  • 2012-2015
National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship

The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP) encourages research by graduate students in STEM fields by funding their education and providing a stipend so that students can focus on their research. Typically around 2000 awards are made each year out of 14000 applicants. I received this award to support my graduate research with Professor Lukin.
  • 2011
American Physical Society Apker Award Finalist

The American Physical Society LeRoy Apker Award awards outstanding achievements in physics by undergraduate students. Seven students are selected nationwide as finalists.
  • 2011
    Edgar F. Shannon Award
    image
The Edgar F. Shannon Awards recognize the best single student in each of the University of Virginia's schools. I was recognized as the top student in my class of around 2500 in the College of Arts and sciences. The criteria are deliberately ambiguous to emphasize that "each of us pursues greatness in very different ways." Winners are determined through a combination of dean and student recommendations.
  • 2010
    Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is designed to encourage undergraduate students who intend to pursue a career in STEM fields. The scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards given to undergraduates in the sciences. It is given to approximately 300 college sophomores and juniors nationwide.
  • 2010
American Chemical Society Physical Chemistry Division Undergraduate Symposium Award

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Physical Chemistry Division recognizes approximately 10 undergraduate students annually based on their research accomplishments. The students are given a small award and invited to present their research at a national ACS meeting.
  • 2009
    GlaxoSmithKline Summer Fellowship
    image
GlaxoSmithKline's summer fellowship program sponsors undergraduate chemistry students to perform summer research at their home institution. Around five students are selected nationwide. I received this award to support my research with Professor Fraser in the UVa Chemistry Department.
